From Indian Cities to Boston, Protests to Condemn Lynching Of Tabrez Continue

The lynching of 24-year-old Tabrez Ansari in Jharkhand has stirred a series of protests across India, including Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Delhi. So have hate crimes, as three more incidents were reported from major cities of India—Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi. A Muslim cab driver in the national capital was allegedly forced to chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’. In Mumbai, a similar incident took place, where Faisal Usman an Uber driver was thrashed and allegedly forced to chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’.…  United Against Hate, a movement against hate crime, spearheaded protest rallies in more than 70 cities, some other big and small organisations also came together in other districts to protest against Tabrez’s lynching and other hate crimes.

Madrasa Teacher ‘Pushed out of Train’ for not Chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in Kolkata

Two days after 22-year-old Tabrez Ansari passed away in Jharkhand after being beaten by a mob who had forced him to chant “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Hanuman”, a madrasa teacher was allegedly pushed off a moving train for refusing to chant the same slogan in the heart of Kolkata on Monday.… a group of people chanting “Jai Shri Ram” in his train compartment began heckling him to join in their chants. When he refused, the group began beating him.… With the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s clout in West Bengal.…, the “Jai Shri Ram” chant has taken on new political proportions in the state.…

TMC MP Mahua Moitra: India moving towards fascism, signs everywhere if you open your eyes

In her maiden speech in Parliament, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra warned that prevalent signs suggest that India is moving towards fascism. During the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in Lok Sabha, the Krishnanagar MP said, “Only if you would open your eyes, you would see that there are signs everywhere, that this country is being torn apart.” .… She said that the Constitution which each member of the House has “sworn to protect” is “under threat today”.… Moitra pointed to seven signs to say that the country was sliding down a dangerous path.… She urged the members to decide “which side of history do we want us to be on”.…
