Out on bail, Bulandshahr violence accused welcomed with garlands, chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’

The seven accused who were granted bail in the December 3 Bulandshahr violence and arson case were welcomed with cheers and slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, and ‘Vande Mataram’ after they stepped out of the district jail on Saturday evening. In videos that have gone viral on social media, key accused Shikhar Agarwal and Jeetu Fauji can be seen being garlanded as people jostle to get pictures and selfies clicked with them.… Police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh and civilian Sumit Kumar, 20, died of bullet shots during the violence.…

Jaipur: Muslim Women Allege Assault by Cops After Clash Between Kanwariyas, Muslims

Muslim women in Jaipur’s Rawalji ka Bazar area have accused policemen of barging into their houses, destroying property and mercilessly beating them on the night of August 13, a day after clashes in the Eidgah area of the city erupted between Kanwariyas and Muslims. Three women – Nasreen, Shahnaz and Shafia – have written a letter to the police commissioner. “A day after stone-pelting happened in the Eidgah area in the city, our neighbours Uma Shankar (an ex-councillor) and his brother Gauri Shankar along with 10-15 policemen broke into our house at night. Despite telling them that there’s no man hidden inside our houses, they damaged our belongings, ripped off our clothes and beaten us with lathis. They also assaulted our 15-year-old daughters and granddaughters,” reads the letter.…

89% of people excluded from Assam NRC suffering from mental torture, finds survey

About 89% of the more than 41 lakh people excluded from Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) have been suffering from extreme mental torture because of the fear of being marked as a foreigner and its consequences, a survey by the National Campaign Against Torture (NCAT) has revealed. The NCAT had conducted a field survey on the mental health of the NRC-excluded in Baksa, Goalpara and Kamrup districts from July 16 to 20. The report, “Assam’s NRC: Four Million Tales of Mental Torture, Trauma and Humiliation” was released on Friday.…
