Three journalists in Kashmir charged for social media posts and fake news

The move has been criticized as people accuse government of silencing the truth about Kashmir. Masarat Zahra one of the few female photojournalist of Kashmir has been booked under stringent unlawful activities prevention Act (UAPA) for what they call anti-national activities on social media.

The police have blamed Zahra of uploading anti national posts on Face book with an intention to induce the youth. UAPA gives government powers to proscribe individuals as terrorists. A person jailed under this law can be jailed up to 7 years.

…Besides Masarat Zahra, Gowhar Geelani and Peerzada Ashiq two senior journalists have also been booked for their so-called provocative social media posts and stories respectively.…
