Indian Muslim Council-USA endorses ‘Promise of India’ campaign for Communal Harmony in India.

Oct 4th, 2003. Milpitas, CA. Indian Muslim Council-USA, a Washington based advocacy group working toward safeguarding Indian society’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, announces its endorsement and support for the ‘Promise of India’ campaign.

‘Promise of India’ is a global campaign for communal harmony in India, launched on October 4, 2003 to coincide with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at India Community Center (ICC), Milpitas, CA by a coalition of Indian-American non-profit organizations serving the Indian community.

Rasheed Ahmed, Vice-President of IMC-USA, said, “Indian Muslims and IMC-USA will always support any effort that strengthens India’s secularism. Campaigns like this are the only way for the silent majority to express their displeasure at sectarian violence and the politics of hate. We at IMC-USA are eager to build an India that is secular, democratic and prosperous, and where every citizen is treated with dignity and respect, irrespective of caste, creed or religion”.

IMC-USA lauds the leadership of AID, AIF, ASHA, CAC, ICA, ICC, PrajaNet and TiE in their effort to make a positive difference in the functioning of the largest democracy. IMC-USA pledges it full support to the ‘Promise of India’ campaign and looks forward to working with the diverse organizations to make this campaign a success.

Since it was founded over a year ago, IMC-USA has been actively promoting values of pluralism and tolerance amongst the Indian Diaspora in the United States.
