On the contrary: The Biden team’s priorities (from what we know so far) are likely to drive a wedge between the United States and continental Asia’s oldest democracy at a time when Washington is looking for new allies in its strategic rivalry with China.… The BJP is often described as a Hindu nationalist party, but it can also be seen as a regional movement centered on the Hindi heartland of northern India. That regional base has expanded in recent years, but Tamil Nadu – which is almost 90 percent Hindu but not Hindi-speaking—remains a bastion of opposition.…

29-year-old reporter covering illegal land sale hacked to death near Chennai

A 29-year-old reporter working with the Tamilan TV channel, who was reporting on illegal sale of government poramboke land and on ganja sales in Tamil Nadu’s Kundrathur, was hacked to death on Sunday night.… A duo intercepted Moses, who was already facing death threats, and attacked him with sickles leaving him dead in a pool of blood. Following this, Somangalam police have arrested four people of a gang involved in illegal land sale and ganja sales in connection with the death. Moses used to expose the undercover operations of anti-social elements in the region through the Sirappu Paarvai (Special focus) show on Tamilan channel. Last week, he had reported on ganja sales carried out by a gang in the region and had been facing threats from the group.…

Mosque Vandalised in Bihar, India Allegedly by BJP Supporters After Election Victory

In the aftermath of the BJP-led alliance’s win in the Bihar state elections, a mosque was vandalised, allegedly by BJP supporters during the victory procession and several people were injured in the reported attack in Jamua Village, East Champaran district, reported The Wire news website. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the incident, in which five people were injured. According to the report, the incident took place on 11 November after BJP leader Pawan Kumar Jaiswal from the Dhaka Assembly seat won the election and a celebratory procession was launched by workers from the saffron party.… Mazhar Alam, the caretaker of the mosque, told The Wire that around 500 people started pelting the mosque. They broke the gate, broke a mic, electric gadgets, and destroyed everything while chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram'(Glory to Lord Rama).…
