On the evening of 24 August, Palakkad North Division police turned up at the house of two brothers, Abdurrahman (18) and Bilal (20), to question them in connection with a physical assault attempt on an RSS worker.… “They were unaware of this assault incident and continuously asserted their innocence to the police”, said their lawyer Advocate Mohammad Rashid.… “A group of ten police officers started by beating both the youths on their feet. They were tied up and 150-200 lashes were inflicted on them. They stood on his thighs and beat them on the head,” he said. He continued to describe how the violence escalated. “Then, two police officers sat on their chests while the others used a cigarette lighter to burn their genitals. Caught On Camera: Dalit Man Beaten To Death Over Rumour That He Sold His Daughter

A 45-year-old Dalit man died in a Uttar Pradesh hospital on Sunday after he was beaten by a group of five men at his home in Mainpuri, allegedly over rumours. The brutal incident was caught on camera. A video shared by Samajwadi Party on its Twitter handle shows a group of five men assaulting Sarvesh Diwakar on the terrace of his rented house. Even though Diwakar pleads for mercy, the attackers beat him till he falls on the ground, unconscious. While the Samajwadi Party in the tweet said the attackers belonged to right-wing group Bajrang Dal, the police refuted the claim and said those arrested do not have any political affiliation.…Read more
